Paper Tiger vs Real Tiger:
The relentless tasks, or paper tigers we assign ourselves, and others seize us, a byproduct of the world's loveless approach to living. It is as if the heart derails completely, and our systems go on an automatic drive. We fight. We flee. We freeze. To our bodies and mind, it is as if a real tiger is stalking us, pacing our office door, waiting for us to drop our guard. To catch a moment by yourself, with no requirements, contingencies, due dates, looming projects, or expectations, is not a gift it is a necessity to get the heart back online. Our stress system has not evolved to differentiate between paper and real tigers.
May this be your reminder to care for yourself with gentle, loving observation and compassion to help move out of the stress response to equanimous (balanced) states of being. You can begin here with a collection of heart-cultivating meditation practices.

SOMETHING TO CONSIDER:
“What is my relationship with this thought?”
When you are feeling overwhelmed, thoughts are swirling, and you're struggling to see things the key thing to do is stop. Slow down by using tools such as meditation, journaling, or gentle movement (walking, yoga, biking, etc.). When you can connect with your thoughts, and begin to see them more clearly, this is a profound question that draws out clarity quickly.
“What is one kind thing I can do for myself right now?”
When we are off balance and feeling the effects of our extreme thinking, there is a simple and effective way to extend compassion toward ourselves. That is to ask, “what could I do for myself right now that would feel loving, kind, or friendly?” I often ask myself this question when I’m faced with challenges. This is an act of compassion toward yourself—it’s radical. “Compassion is the radicalism of our time.”-Dalai Lama.
