**Remember this may be new to you. Be kind to yourself as you learn to practice meditation and mindfulness. Some days it comes easier than others but over time it strengthens.
3 “Rules” to follow when practicing meditation.
Be gentle with your mind. Mindfulness implies there is a level of kindness toward yourself—begin now.
Try not to take yourself too seriously. It’s okay to lighten up and not place any more pressure on yourself to “get meditation right”. You are doing your very best.
Begin again. This is the invitation to any practice. You can always begin again. :)

SOMETHING TO CONSIDER:
“What is my relationship with this thought?”
When you are feeling overwhelmed, thoughts are swirling, and you're struggling to see things the key thing to do is stop. Slow down by using tools such as meditation, journaling, or gentle movement (walking, yoga, biking, etc.). When you can connect with your thoughts, and begin to see them more clearly, this is a profound question that draws out clarity quickly.
“What is one kind thing I can do for myself right now?”
When we are off balance and feeling the effects of our extreme thinking, there is a simple and effective way to extend compassion toward ourselves. That is to ask, “what could I do for myself right now that would feel loving, kind, or friendly?” I often ask myself this question when I’m faced with challenges. This is an act of compassion toward yourself—it’s radical. “Compassion is the radicalism of our time.”-Dalai Lama.
