TEMPORARY.

A friend recently left me a voice message and said, “It’s temporary… it’s temporary… it’s temporary...” My body softened, the moment didn’t feel so charged, and if a word could soothe an anxious mind—this is it. The idea that everything is permanent percolates and paints our perception of reality. It feels like everything will last forever, both our challenges and our wins, but when we look deeply truth is; it does not. Our natural tendency to think in extremes is why Buddha stressed the concept of impermanence. To set us straight—right our thinking, understanding, and actions.

The challenges, uncertainties, and stressors you face will not last forever, friend. It will change because that is the nature of our reality. "Because of impermanence, anything is possible." Says Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh. We can smile toward that.

When joy, warmth, and love are in front of you, remember they are fleeting too, friend. Dip all the way into it. Not because you are afraid of their temporary nature or unsure when they may come again, but because you are in awe.

May you be free--flowing into whatever temporary experience is in front of you, and remember to breathe deeply.
